This is my third pair of Torin 8 because I love how they fit. I have wide feet and they give me enough room. I am used to zero-drop as I've been in barefoot/no drop shoes for years. Don't jump right in from normal running shoes.
I like wearing these for long walks. They are cushioned and have a large toe box which I love.
I love the wider toe box of this brand of shoes. For this particular model, however, the cushioning wasn't as comfortable for my feet as another pair of shoes that I tried on so I bought the other pair and returned this pair.
I have purchased many pairs of Altra shoes. Love the big toe box and drop heel.
This shoe fits right to size - I have a wide foot but feel lots of room. It is supportive but not too bulky. Breathes well.
Léger et très confortable
The fore foot on this shoe is somewhat stiff which helps with Hallux Rigidus and Hallux Limitus but the toe height is just barely high enough to not cause my arthritic joint to rub. I have a boney growth on the top of my MTP joint. The toe height might be fine for others with this problem. I removed the insole for sufficient room. I have a strong arch so the loss of the insole arch support wasn’t an issue. The sole is well cushioned. The foot shape is reasonably wide but it isn’t the original Altra foot shape. Not a problem for me, yet, but for those with wider feet you might not like it so much.
Context: I wear size 8 Lone Peaks (VERY roomy, with the insole), size 8 Escalante (perfect fit, with the insole), and size 7. 5 Torin (withOUT the insole). I bought both the size 7. 5 and 8 Torin 8 to try on. With the insole, the size 8 fit but I found the insole to be really uncomfortable. With the insole the shoe felt way too cushiony and unstable, as I'm used to wearing barefoot shoes exclusively outside of Altras for running. With the insole, the 7. 5 were too small. However, the 7. 5 WITHOUT the insole turned out to be PERFECT! I would recommend purchasing two sizes if you tend to be between sizes and try with or without the insole. I wear them for my long runs (10km+) and my chill recovery runs. I find the Torin 8 to be very comfortable and roomy in the toe box. I tie all my Altras with a heel lock and I couldn't bear to run in them without it l because I have a very narrow ankle/heel, but a very wide toe splay! Try the heel lock if you're looking for that perfect Altra fit :)
the Torin 8 seems to run smaller than the Torin 6 I used to have. It is also more stiff in the sole, which has caused me to get a sore ankle. I will definitely have to wear these in more. Otherwise they are great.
